Last winter our oil furnace gave up the ghost! We had no choice but to replace it and decided on going with an electric furnace instead. However, for that to happen, we were forced to upgrade our electrical service. As a result, bright and too early this morning, three electricians in two fully loaded trucks appeared at our front steps. What ensued was six hours of house arrest: we were trapped in the house with no electricity, no internet, no house telephone nor hot water. Weee! What fun! Luckily, thanks to the expertise of Lumax Electrique, all went smoothly. Phase two, a report on the installation of the electric furnace will follow shortly. Stay tuned.

Zut, alors zut! These home repairs are frustrating and always expensive! It appears that you live in a charming, old, brick house with a wonderful backyard garden!
Bonne journee, Ken!

@Mo: I'll have heating this winter.

@Leif Hagen: This old brick house is more than a hundred years old and it was hugely neglected by the previous owners, so it needs lots of TLC. There's no end in sight for repairs. Definitely frustrating and expensive! :S

Wow - heating with electricity can be pricey in our climate -no? Never heard of an electric furnace.

I hate it when things quit working. Things should not break. How did you keep the house warm after the furnace went out? I love that round patio in the garden.

@ RedPat: We did some research on the different heating options available to us and finally did decide on an electric "boiler" furnace. Maybe my usage of the terminology was not accurate... we have a water heated radiators system. The new boiler to heat the water will be powered by electricity. The model we chose is of a newer technology... it only heats water as you need it and it's supposed to be very fast and very efficient. Since the cost of hydro electricity (in Quebec) is "relatively" less expensive than oil, it only made sense that we go this route. And I didn't want anything to do with the natural gas option. Just not comfortable with it.

@ Jarart: In the beginning of last winter when our oil furnace started to act up, we just called up the service people. Since we had an annual service plan, it wasn't that big a deal... they'd come and re-start it or adjust something and it didn't cost us anything. Then one day the old girl just gave up. Thank goodness by then it was late winter and we managed without heating in the house.

I know how frustrating this could be. Just keep focused on the end result. Excellent shots.
