From Guimard's graceful Metro entrance portico, a line of small pulsating jets of water lead the way northwards to the other end of Square Victoria. This spot is anchored by a pair of forbidding figures in bronze executed by Ju Ming of Taiwan. These massive TaiChi practitioners are permanently engaged in movements from the ancient art. The larger piece is titled "TaiChi Single Whip" and the smaller one is "TaiChi Shadow Boxing". These sculptures are part of a series by this artist who has works installed in major public spaces in Asia, Europe and North America. Montreal was fortunate enough to acquire these major works and they have been displayed here since 2006.

A Touch of Gay Paree

This is an authentic Art Nouveau Parisian metro entrance portico from the Paris Métro System. It was given to Montreal in 1967 by the French to commemorate the collaboration of Canadian and French engineers in building our metro system. This cast-iron entrance portico is truly a gem and an important example of the Art Nouveau style. We're very proud to have this because it is also the only authentic Hector Guimard entrance in use on a metro station, anywhere in the world outside Paris. So, whenever you're in town, be sure to check it out! One more reason to visit Montreal? I hope so.

Montreal Homeless Shelter: The Old Brewery Mission

Founded in 1889, the Old Brewery Mission provides basic needs to homeless Montreal adults by offering them a safe place to sleep, nourishing meals, clothing, warm showers and other services.

Pictured here is the Webster Pavilion, one of five branches run by the Old Brewery Mission. The back wall of this building features a mural of the Montreal Metro, adding a bit of color and energy to this otherwise sad looking edifice. If you look in from the bottom three windows on the left hand side, you may be able to see the bunk beds in these rooms.

Quebec Artist: Granche Wows Again

This ensemble of aluminium free-standing architectural sculptures, titled " Comme si le temps... de la rue " is the work of Pierre Granche. The installation is sited under a glass skylight in the interior of the Place des Arts Complex ( Place-des-Arts Metro ). If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and have a look. It's a must !

Underground Metro Vendors

A typical Montreal "underground " Metro vendor. These "hawkers" usually sell counterfeit Fashion brand names: Calvin Klein, Chanel, Diesel, Gucci, Hugo Boss, etc... Merchandise run the gamut from sunglasses, t-shirts, perfumes and colognes, handbags, costume jewelry to scarves and headgear and beyond. But, buyers beware, they're here today and maybe not tomorrow.
