Square Victoria Agora Fountain
"Taichi Shadow Boxing" by Ju Ming
"Taichi Single Whip" by Ju Ming
From Guimard's graceful Metro entrance portico, a line of small pulsating jets of water lead the way northwards to the other end of Square Victoria. This spot is anchored by a pair of forbidding figures in bronze executed by Ju Ming of Taiwan. These massive TaiChi practitioners are permanently engaged in movements from the ancient art. The larger piece is titled "TaiChi Single Whip" and the smaller one is "TaiChi Shadow Boxing". These sculptures are part of a series by this artist who has works installed in major public spaces in Asia, Europe and North America. Montreal was fortunate enough to acquire these major works and they have been displayed here since 2006.

My, oh my, how things have changed over the last 50 years. Nice to see the art in the square, and so nice to know I will get more glimpses of one of my favourite cities on your blog.
Arija, I'm so happy you stopped by. It's July 1st... Happy Canada Day!
Great sculptures
Is that last one, the hockey goalie heading into a 'butterfly'? It is Montreal after all.
Nice! Happy Canada Day to you!
They are fabulous and so well positioned relative to the fountain and metro entrance! Happy Canada Day!
@ Birdman: haha! Some pranksters had actually made a hockey jersey large enough to fit this sculpture. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me at the time. Oh, that was a good one. City officials were not happy. :)
@ Jarart and RedPat: thanks and likewise!
Happy Canada Day!
I last visited Montreal last summer and I don't remember seeing these. Such amazing structures! Great photos!

What great scuplture! They look kind of menacing (in a good way). Do kids runs through the water in the summer?
@ llandudnopictures: Yes, you guessed it. Skateboarders seem to like this square too.
Hey GDP! Thanks for the heads up.
He's the reason why I had to switch 'daily & photo' around. I hope this angry dragon doesn't wake up. hehe.
